FORWARD //
Never in my life have I needed more stick-to-itiveness for any sport, class, or challenge than I have motherhood. It has been the most difficult, challenging, laborious, mentally and physically exhausting, rewarding, grace-filled, kingdom-serving job I’ve ever had. I have learned that my job as a mama is the most important job I will ever have.
I have been sharpened—through labor and childbirth, the first few weeks at home with a newborn, having Covid while caring for a baby with Covid, going back to work as a mom (I could go on)—in a proverbial wisdom that I did not appreciate before experiencing all those things. Life must go on. Sometimes you just have to figure it out, because you have no other choice.
You can’t just decide you don’t want to do late-night wakings with a newborn because you’re too tired. You can’t just decide to not care for a sick baby because it’s too hard and you don’t know which or how much medicine to give them. You can’t just stay in your house forever because you don’t know how to leave the house with a child. These are not the ways that the Lord intended for us to mother. These are anxious thoughts that the enemy puts in a mama’s head because he knows he can.
The enemy comes to steal our joy, kill our confidence, and destroy the peace in our homes. And it is our job as mamas to hold up a barrier, keep those boundaries, and say NO.
It is our job as mamas to find our strength and power in the one who created us, who gave us the gift and power to create our babies, and to move forward in spite of challenges, and the “hard” that comes with motherhood.
And the more you do, the more you know. I feel more confident in being a mom because I’ve gone through those challenges. As one of my favorite Bible-believing, Christian mamas always says “hard is not the same thing as bad.” We mothers were made to do hard things. And we must keep moving forward, persevering.
“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”
Philippians 3:14 NLT
